Rivian has released a dedicated Apple Watch app for its R1S and R1T electric vehicles, giving drivers direct access to core vehicle functions from their wrist. The update expands Rivian’s connected ecosystem and reduces the need to open the iPhone app for routine tasks.

Apple Watch App Adds One-Tap Vehicle Controls and Cabin Adjustments

The Apple Watch app supports up to four customizable one-tap controls. Drivers can lock or unlock doors, open or close windows, access the front or rear trunk, and trigger the vehicle alarm.

The app also enables cabin temperature adjustments and battery charging target changes using the Apple Watch’s Digital Crown. This allows drivers to fine-tune climate settings and charging limits remotely without pulling out their phone.

Rivian has added a watch face complication that displays the vehicle’s battery charge level. The information appears directly on the watch face, eliminating the need to open the app to check remaining range.

Apple Wallet Car Key Support Expands to Second-Generation Models

Rivian recently introduced Apple Wallet car key support for second-generation R1S and R1T models. The feature uses Ultra Wideband technology to enable passive entry.

With compatible devices, drivers can approach the vehicle, unlock it, and begin driving without removing their iPhone from their pocket or their Apple Watch from their wrist.

Passive entry requires an iPhone 11 or newer, excluding iPhone SE and iPhone 16e, and an Apple Watch Series 6 or newer.

For first-generation R1S and R1T models, digital key functionality remains more limited. Drivers can lock or unlock the vehicle from within the app, but full passive entry is not supported.

The Apple Watch app installs automatically after updating the Rivian iPhone app to the latest version from the App Store.
